Surf City Comic Con Volunteer Policies
1. Introduction
Welcome to the Surf City Comic Con Volunteer Team!
Volunteers are the heart of our event, helping us create a safe, welcoming, and exciting experience for fans and vendors. This manual outlines your responsibilities, expectations, and the benefits of being part of the team.
2. Volunteer Eligibility
- Must be at least 18 years old by the day of the convention.
- Must complete the volunteer application and be approved by the Volunteer Coordinator.
3. Code of Conduct
Volunteers are representatives of the convention and must:
- Treat all attendees, vendors, and fellow volunteers with respect and courtesy.
- Follow the directions of convention staff.
- Wear the official volunteer shirt at all times while on duty.
- Remain sober and professional during shifts.
- Avoid harassment, discrimination, or offensive behavior of any kind.
- Do not accept gifts, tips, or favors from attendees or vendors.
Violation of the Code of Conduct may result in removal from the volunteer team and the convention.
4. Volunteer Roles
Examples of volunteer assignments include:
- Registration & Check-In – Assisting attendees, handing out badges, using the register and assisting in vendor check in.
- Vendor Support – Assisting with basic needs of vendors like answering questions or simple tasks.
- Rovers/Con Operations & Logistics – Assisting staff with setup, supplies, or errands. Checking on fellow volunteers on shift.
- Peace-Bonding Cosplay Props – Checking any cosplay props and making sure they adhere to our policies on cosplay safety.
5. Scheduling & Commitment
- Volunteers must commit to at least 4 hours over the course of the event.
- Check in at the Con Ops office before and after each shift.
- If unable to attend a shift, notify the Volunteer Coordinator as soon as possible.
